My first handwoven rug is completed. I wouldn't call it a success but it's not terrible either. I should have refrained from experimenting with the style of my beating. Experimenting is a very bad idea when you are in the middle of weaving a piece, even I know that, but still I can't stop myself.
I blocked it aggresively last night and as with knitting it helped a lot. It would be good enough now that I could possibly give it to shall we say... my mom. I am going back to the motherland in August and can't feel good going there empty handed.
I am going to make another one of those next, trying to learn from my mistakes and get past the angry/disapointed/overly critical phase.
Weaving was meant to be an escape for me, where mistakes and irregularities were fine, but apperently I can't take a vacation from myself. Rats! (@#$!!!+)
The colors on this pictures are more accurate. The warp is greenish dark charcoal (Patons Classic).

The rug looks wonderful! We're all too self-critical, so it's no wonder you're finding fault in your work!
And your cat is too cute! Is it a ragdoll? I have two, and my younger one looks a lot like yours!

Thank you everyone for the comments, they make me giddy. I might have to reconsider my views vis a vis the rug.
It was woven on four shafts, on a standard floor jack loom by Schacht.
