My friend Karen and I have been working on a skirt together, she in batiks and I in denim. I must say that it's probably one of the worst pattern ( independent pattern company, copy picked up for free by Karen) I ever used and the skirt is much too big and ill fitting. I am feeling sorry about it because it looked so lovely on the picture. I decided to experiment a bit with detailing on this project. The seams were moved to the outside to fray and I topstitched with a 'free and careless' style twice over each seam. I have started to really like the wandering topstitching style. When you use a regular stitch but go over the same line twice without matching up exactly.
Sometimes on JCrew cargo pants, they use some kind of binding in some wonderfully enticing fabric inside the waistband. I have bought many a pair just because of the detailing... I thought I'd give it a try. And even though the skirt is not a success in the fit department, the waistband is cute!
Denim from Joann's, cotton from Moda "Wonderland".

What a shame that the skirt doesn't fit :( Your finishing details are perfect - I love the look of the Wonderland print inside the waistband. You always do such beautiful work, Juliette!

I'm sorry the fitting didn't work out but I must say your detailing is wonderful.

The finishing is very polished. I'm impressed, especially since it can be so tempting just to use pinking shears and be done with it when you're making something for yourself.
