So I haven't posted in a while... I blame it on the frustration created by the baby pants I was trying to sew for Finn. I hate them, they are HUGE and not at all cute, except the knee patches. I used the fusible interfacing applique technique to turn under a smooth oval and it really works like a charm, maybe because I used a quilting weight cotton for the patch. It remains to be seen if denim turns under so neatly.
(it's funny/sad how all the sudden when I stare at the picture the patches don't look so neat anymore... Maybe it's just the print on the edges that makes it so?)
I took Finn outside to play on the grass for the first time yesterday, he mostly favored the concrete. I could see immediately that any pairs of pants would be holyfied in no time...
I think I'll just stick with published patterns for now, with so little time to sew I shouldn't squander it on "trying things out". With all those years of subscribing to Ottobre Design maybe it's time to actually sew something from them? Get tracing lazy bum! (they have a blog now, with a cute bag pattern and pattern modifications).

I get Ottobre too and I have yet to make anything although I have plans to do it. Really I do!

I think the pants are super cute.. what I saw of them. I like the print for the patches and I think you are being over critical (but I think we all are when it comes to our own creations :)
Thanks for the links too!

I don't know how the rest of the pants look, but those patches are ADORABLE!
Cheers,

We should do an Ottobre sew along - I have lots of issues but little that I've sewn from them. Maybe we could motivate each other!

I'm certainly no expert in sewing but when I make pants for my boys, I just find a pair of pants that fit them well, fold them in half and use that to make the pants ala Petchy's 10-minute pants http://madebypetchy.blogspot.com/2008/06/tutorial-10-minute-trousers.html
