Even though you rarely hear about my passion for old Silver-plate, it is nonetheless the main focus for collecting at our house. It takes photographic skills that I do not possess to do it justice and show the still life, silver and black appeal of the metal. Silver-plate is truly a throwback, high maintenance and rarely useful but usually an affordable luxury. Still I hold it dear and imagine the moment when a future bride picked her pieces at a grand department store, and much later as a parent or grandparent hosted family feasts where the silver shone bright. That is all I wish for the silver I rescue or receive from my dear aunt A, to be a special touch, a memory of delicious meals and friendship for a lifetime and those that come after me.
Hopeless romantic or in the holiday spirit? Maybe in the end it does not matter.
