It's hat season soon, it rained all day yesterday and the mountain peaks are already dusted with snow. I hate when it snows before Halloween, it's poor form. Since there is nothing I can do about it except wine I decided to knit a hat instead. The hat pictured above. JL Yarnworks has a free pattern, which is awfully nice of her. It's not difficult to follow in the least but still you should read it because if you don't, like me, you end up having to unpicks seven rows, which is a lot.
My version copies Karin's, the brim uses a twisted rib ( knit in the back loop, purl ). It looks a bit more like the original this way. The yarn is Cascade Cash Vero, very soft cashmere blend, and it will fit a large head. Beware of this if you make this hat for yourself, it can get quite big!
To knit this hat I am using the magic loop method with #6 Knit Picks Zephirs and a 60" cable.
Post Edit:
I was asked to write a little about the Knit Picks Zephir needles. These needles are made out of acrylic and are completely see through. They are softer than wood needles and bend a little. The first time you use them you might think they feel like wet noodles but it's not in case the fact at all. You will get use to them soon enough to see the advantages of such comfortable needles on the fingers and wrists. My favorite thing about them is their price. They are incredibly affordable and it's very reasonable to hope to get yourself a complete set! I have not so far used Zephirs in very large sizes but I can't imagine they would be any different than in the small ones. I do like a little bend in my needles when they are on the small side.
The cables come in packs of two. They also are a real deal. You can get about any size cable you dream of, but if it's the magic method you have in mind then go big.
and no, I don't work for Knit Picks... hehe.
another edit:
The needles are not as slick as metals ones and the yarn slides better than with wood.

Love all your knitting projects and yarn dyeing. Wondering if you could give me a review of how you really like the Knit Picks Zephris? They are on my birthday wish list and just wondering if I am really going to like them. Thanks and can't wait to see your finished hat.

Oh i'm glad to hear a review of the Zephirs. Are they slick like metal or a little more grabby like wood? I find my metal knit picks set to be too slick for some projects and the only bamboo circs I could find have terrible joins and i get very frustrated.
I love the color of the yarn you're using and thanks for the link to the pattern!

I made that hat recently and I couldn't be happier with it! I think yours will be lovely. By the way, I just finished making a bib from your pattern and it was both super easy and very cute. Thanks!

Oh boy! I've got 4 Hermione fans that would love that hat. Problem...I've never knitted cables before or used circular needles. I offically feel challenged!
